Chips in thread M6

If it's a production line, have you'll thought of investing in a in-line parts washer or thread cleaning operation? Only reason I ask is because I used to be in that industry a few years ago and the washers we used to build can clean and wash the part of machining debris and oils.

We always have problems removing chips from threads. We now use tooling with liquid coolant flowing through the tool at high pressure, drill and taps. This is the best way we have found to flush out chips. All our new machining centers are equipped with high pressure coolant. On small taps this is not feasible and the machinist has to use a pick to remove chips, not very production friendly. A blast of air will help but not all the time. A good tap with chip breakers are the best to help eliminate long stringy chips. Good luck with your problem, not an easy to fix.

Hi! I think the best solution is to use a chipless tapping, that simply would not create any chip an therefore no need for cleaning at all!
the thread is formed by material "squeezing", instead of material "removing", and is better under many aspects.
not really sure if suitable for aluminium, but after quick check in google seems that is possible: http://dts-aa.dk/pdf/UKRollformtap.pdf
