How much i need heat to melt the steel?(I have 2 days help me :) )

Hello everyone i have project in my university.I have to design flash welding machine.I posted a thread before about my Project.Here is the link.I learn a lot of things.Now i started to calculation things.

At firstly i need to calculate the how much i need electricity or heat to melt the steel?My professor gave me the welding surface area how can use this information?

Use first prinicpals to calculate.

Estimate the volume of steel that will be molten at any one time.

Calculate energy required to raise the temp of the steel from room temp to melting point of steel.

Hint: You need to know the specific heat of steel.

Next calculate the energy required to melt you volume of steel.

Second hint: Find the Heat of solidification of steel.

Lastly, do some heat transfer analysis to figure out how much energy you are losing to the surroundings.

I almost got it :).At firstly i'll calculate the Q=m.c.Delta(T) right?

I know specific heat of my steel.

But i couldn't get the second one.Should i use the Q that i found in first equation in Q=I2.R.T.

After use in this equation i can find the how much i need I(current) and T(time).Is it correct?
